Shared Transformation

Introduction to Issue 3

The more I learn about spiritual experiences, the more amazed I feel. In the last issue of Shared Transformation, I wrote about my automatic hand mudras -- specifically, about a "magnetic" and spontaneous joining of my thumb and index finger which would be held for hours on end. This occurred during the most intense phase of my process. Yesterday, I came across this passage by Hiroshi Motoyama: "The index finger represents the jivatma (the individual soul in each person) and the thumb signifies the paramatma (the all-pervading Supreme Consciousness). The position of the index finger and thumb symbolizes the ultimate goal of yoga -- the union of the individual soul and the Supreme Consciousness." (Theories of the Chakras) We hope that Shared Transformation is providing similar confirmation and exciting discovery for our readers. Even if you feel mystified or unsure of the meaning of your experiences, you are still, by virtue of your own spiritual emergence, an equal "authority". The world is filled with exoteric (external) spiritual teachings, but very little is known about the esoteric (inner and deeply personal) spiritual journey. We need to break the silence surrounding these profound processes. Let's speak our own truths here, in a space where it is "safe" to be heard.
