Shared Transformation
Introduction to Issue 20
According to a survey reported in the Jan. 7, 1996 San Francisco Examiner & Chronicle, 57% of American psychiatrists are atheists (compared to only 10% of the general populace). No wonder psychiatry hangs on to such a negative view of Kundalini and spiritual emergence experiences! A psychiatrist who doesn't believe in the Spirit is like a marriage counselor who doesn't believe in love. Goddess help us.
The current cyberspace explosion, enabling incredible networking and information gathering worldwide, parallels two important astrological shifts: As of January '96, Uranus moved into its own sign of Aquarius, sextile Pluto which had recently entered Sagittarius. Aquarius is the sign of the innovator and the humanitarian, and Sagittarius is the benevolent teacher. As these two forces work on the world-psyche, we should begin to see more external evidence of the long heralded, approaching "Golden Age." This powerful collective influence will last until 2004! Aquarius and Uranus are both agents of sudden, unforeseeable change and reversals, and Pluto in Sagittarius portends joyful transformation. I think this will translate into increasing global signs and wonders in the form of miracles.
The seven year period from '89-'95 was, on a collective level, very much like the painful purification phase in the Kundalini process. Uranus in Capricorn danced like Shiva, tearing down old structures and leaving the world to sift through the rubble, while Pluto in Scorpio was like the terrifying aspect of Kali, dredging up the worst of human nature in an upsurge of violence, hatred, sadism and depravity across the face of the earth. Mirroring the individual transformative process, these "dark night of the soul" years have seemed mighty bleak.
Of course, not everything in the world has been negative during this time. Neptune in Capricorn has been steadily building a revisioned spiritual foundation and has worked to increase our collective regard for each other and for all beings on this planet we inhabit as one interdependent family. Still, it has required a great leap of faith to believe that the dark forces engineering the on-going horror show have in fact been a Spirit-orchestrated swan song -- the death which must precede the glorious rebirth. Pluto in Scorpio brought all the dreck to the surface, exposing hitherto dark, dirty collective secrets, like the shocking post war radiation experiments the U.S. government conducted on its own unwitting and unconsenting citizens. Pluto in Sagittarius is the Truth-teller, while Uranus in Aquarius is a crusader for equity and fair play. Together, these forces will work to amend past injustices and bring a higher vision to our collective human endeavors.
Even writing this, a part of me looks at my words with doubt, unable to believe the shambles we have made of our world can be salvaged. But as transformation is happening to us individually, so must it happen to us as mankind. In increasing numbers, we are moving at unprecedented speed toward the proverbial light at the end of the tunnel.
