Shared Transformation

Introduction to Issue 11

New information and confirmation of the awakening process keeps coming to me from unexpected sources. In 1991, I came across The Kundalini Experience by Dr. Lee Sannella. In this book, he noted that while traditional yogic literature describes the movement of the Kundalini energy as originating from the base of the spine, Westerners who have no preconceived notions about the pathway of Kundalini often report that they feel the energies coursing up from the left foot. From there, the energy may move upwards into the spine, and/or diffuse throughout the body.

I frequently feel a great deal of heat and vibration in the soles of both my feet, and the surges of energy that cause my kriyas often originate in my left foot! Not long ago, reading Healers on Healing -- which does not specifically mention Kundalini -- I came across this passage by Brooke Medicine Shield describing the Native American sacred dance: "The dancers are to focus their attention on softening and opening the sole of the left foot, so that they have a growing sense of connection with Mother Earth below. Through the softened and opened sole of the left foot we feel our link with the Earth Mother who supports us in every moment of earthly life, giving us not only food, water, tools, and the materials for shelter, but even the very cells of the bodily temples we inhabit."
